Kent Police have launched an appeal following an incident in which two ducks were found dead and two ducklings injured near The Fleet waterway in Sheerness on Saturday 30 May 2026.

Officers responded at around 11.30am after receiving reports that wildfowl had been targeted by a catapult. This has prompted an ongoing investigation into the assault on protected wildlife.

Police took immediate action to safeguard the remaining birds and reviewed CCTV footage to identify potential suspects involved in the attack.

The use of a catapult to harm wildfowl has caused concern among local residents and authorities in the area.

Inspector Julia Bassindale has called for witnesses to come forward. She noted that two boys were seen near the scene at the time of the incident. The boys are described as being aged between 12 and 14 years old, with dark hair, wearing shorts and grey t-shirts.

Kent Police are urging anyone with information to assist the investigation by contacting the appeal line on 01795 419119, quoting reference number 46/86974/26.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or submitting details via the online Crimestoppers form.

Authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward to help hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
