West Midlands Police confirmed the discovery of an unexploded World War Two bomb at Sandy Lane Business Park in Coventry’s Radford area on Tuesday, 2 June at 2.55pm.

Emergency services responded by closing multiple roads and setting up a 100-metre safety cordon. This prompted the evacuation of 96 homes, with Coventry City Council providing support to those affected.

Authorities sealed off the immediate area and nearby roads to ensure public safety while Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams assessed the device. Residents and motorists were advised to avoid the area during the operation.

In total, 96 homes within the cordoned zone remain evacuated. Coventry City Council is offering assistance and emergency accommodation where needed throughout the ongoing operation.

Bomb disposal experts began work immediately after the bomb’s discovery. They expect the assessment and safe disposal process to continue into the evening and possibly into Wednesday morning.

West Midlands Police praised the cooperation of local residents, businesses, and road users during the disruption caused by the emergency response. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
