West Midlands Police have introduced eight Belgian Malinois puppies named after England football stars as part of their new police dog recruits. Born last month, the pups Jude, Nico, Morgan, Rogers, Declan, Saka, Ezri and Jordan are training to join the force within 18 months to boost crime-fighting efforts across the region ahead of the World Cup this summer.
These future police dogs are undergoing early training to support officers in a range of roles. Handlers are encouraged by their progress and confident about their potential to become fully operational members of the unit.
Inspector Rachel Crump, head of the West Midlands Police dog unit, said: “It’s always an exciting time when the World Cup is on and we wanted to be a part of the feel-good mood too.” She added the pups have big reputations to live up to, reflecting the achievements of their footballing namesakes.
These young recruits are being trained to become dedicated and brave members of the police dog team, expected to play a vital role in keeping the public safe and strengthening crime control across the West Midlands.
