West Midlands Police have launched a manhunt following the reported rape of a woman in broad daylight near the Swan Shopping Centre in Birmingham. The incident took place at approximately 3pm on Saturday in an underpass located on Church Road, Yardley.
Officers quickly secured the scene, sealing off the underpass to allow forensic teams to conduct thorough examinations. The police are also supporting the victim while tracing and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify the suspect.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said, “An investigation is underway after a woman reported she was raped on Saturday on Church Road, Birmingham at around 3pm. Specially trained officers are supporting the woman, and officers are continuing with their enquiries, including forensic examinations and CCTV trawls in the area.”
The force is appealing urgently to the public for any information that could assist the investigation. Witnesses or anyone with relevant details are asked to contact West Midlands Police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 4989 of 5 July. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
