Although we await formal identification, officers are confident that the deceased is 23-year-old Shakur Hassan, who was from Hayes.

Police were called to Austin Road shortly before 10pm  on Tuesday, 13 October, to reports of a shooting.

Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and Shakur Hassan was found with gunshot injuries.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His next of kin were informed and continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

A burnt-out car was also recovered a few miles from the scene.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.

Two men, [A] aged 31 and [B] aged 21, were arrested in connection with the incident. They were taken to a west London police station and were subsequently released with no further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, from the Met’s Specialist Crime South team, leading the investigation, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with Shakur’s family and friends. I want to reassure them and the wider community that my team and I are working hard to piece together the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.

“The investigation is very much in its early stages and we continue to follow all lines of inquiry and remain open minded as to who was responsible. I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Austin Road at the time of the incident. Did you see anything suspicious? Do you have footage or information that could assist my team? Please share anything you saw with either the police or Crimestoppers, no matter how insignificant you may think it is.”

Anyone who has information that could assist police is asked to call 101 quoting reference Cad 7454/13Oct.
