Man clubbed to death with Pickaxe handles yards from Ilford Police Station

A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was beaten by a group of males in the street and has died from his injuries. It is understood that the males made off in a vehicle that police are still trying to trace. A number vehicle have been examined at the scene by officers and recovered for further examination. Police remain at the High Road in what police are calling a fast moving investigation. Officers are following a number of line of enquires following the recovery of a blue pickaxe handle at the scene. and cctv is being examined of the area. It is under stood the 15 second brutal attack was captured on the town CCTV who alerted the Police. The gruesome attack just come weeks after a mass brutal from a local night club. Offices are keeping an open mind on the reason for the attack. A police source close to the investigation has rules out an gang connection.

Police were called by London Ambulance Service [LAS] to reports of a fight and an injured male at High Road, Ilford at 0248hrs.

At the scene a man [no further details] had been beaten by a group of men with what is thought to have been baseball bats.

He was taken to an east London hospital by LAS where he died at 0435hrs.

Enquiries are underway to identify the deceased. A post mortem will be scheduled in due course.

At this early stage, officers retain an open mind regarding motive.

A crime scene has been established and road closures are in place. Buses have been re-routed.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command investigate supported by local officers.

No arrests at this time. Police enquiries continue.
