Traffic is still gridlocked at the scene and on approaches to the Dartford Crossing this afternoon following a car that turned into a fireball.
Fire crews from Kent fire and rescue dashed to the scene just after 2.30pm on Saturday to tackle the blazing vehicle.
Crews extinguished the flames using a hose reel and two breathing appurtus.
The road surface had been damaged as a result of the intense heat from the Audi A1 sport.
Bossss who run the The Dartford crossing say it’s likely to remain closed for sometime whilst the burnt out carcass of the vehicle is removed and emergency repairs are carried out on the road surface that has been damaged by fire.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have sent appliances to a car fire on approach to the Dartford Tunnel.
