Bawan Hawre, 28, from Doncaster, has been sentenced to 29 years in prison for grooming and abusing seven girls aged between 12 and 16 in Doncaster and Barnsley during 2024.

His co-defendant, 21-year-old Sharam Muhamadi, has fled from police while on bail, leading to a large-scale manhunt by South Yorkshire Police.

At Sheffield Crown Court, chilling details of the abuse were revealed. Evidence showed that Hawre used Snapchat to lure victims by promising vapes, money, drugs, and alcohol.

The abuse included rape, with two 14-year-old girls assaulted in Hawre’s home after being intoxicated. Victims described being extremely intoxicated and witnessing others pass out before the assaults took place.

Sharam Muhamadi, an Iranian national who was granted UK asylum in 2022, was convicted of facilitating travel for exploitation. He disappeared after being granted bail in May and was last seen in Birmingham.

Police suspect Muhamadi remains in the UK and are preparing for extradition if he is found abroad.

The victims reported severe trauma, worsening eating disorders, increased drug use as a coping mechanism, and difficulty trusting men following the abuse.

Detective Sergeant Jude Proffitt described Hawre as a “particularly dangerous offender” whose actions caused significant mental health and educational harm to the victims.

On 11 June, Judge Wright sentenced Hawre to a total of 32 years—29 years in prison plus 3 years on licence. The judge condemned Hawre’s predatory sexual interest in underage girls and praised the victims for their “incredible bravery and immeasurable courage.” Victims were visibly emotional as Hawre was taken away.
